Lead surveillance

Track blood-lead surveillance and medical removal protection under 1910.1025 / 1926.62.

This module runs blood-lead level (BLL) surveillance and medical removal protection under OSHA 1910.1025 / 1926.62. It tracks each worker's readings, schedules the next draw, and tells you when the standard requires removal from lead work — and when the worker is eligible to return.

Open surveillance for a worker

  1. Go to Lead surveillance and use the Open surveillance row at the bottom.
  2. Pick the site and the worker from your roster, enter the job title, and click Open.

Log blood-lead readings

  1. On a worker's row, click Readings to open their reading history.
  2. Enter the drawn-on date and the BLL in µg/dL, then click Add reading.
  3. The row shows the latest BLL and the average of the last three, and the status updates automatically: Normal (below 40), Elevated (40 or above, yellow row), or removal required (red row).

Medical removal and return

  • When readings require removal — a single BLL ≥ 60 µg/dL or a three-period average ≥ 50 — a Remove button appears; click it to record removal from lead work.
  • Once the two most recent BLLs are both below 40, the worker shows return-eligible; click Return to record their return.
  • A worker who meets the removal trigger but hasn't been removed yet is the "needs attention" case — click CAPA on that row to open a corrective action; the row then links to that CAPA.
  • On a removal-required row, an optional Confirm poisoning action records a physician-confirmed diagnosis and opens an OSHA 300-log poisoning case via the cross-module raiser (once per worker). It is never auto-derived — a physician makes the call — and the row then badges the linked case.

What happens automatically

  • The next draw is scheduled from the latest reading per 1910.1025(j)(3)(ii): every 6 months normally, every 2 months once the latest BLL is ≥ 40 µg/dL, and monthly while the worker is medically removed. A re-test overdue badge appears when that date passes.
  • The escalation sweep notifies the worker when their re-test is overdue.
  • A worker who meets the removal trigger but has not been removed now escalates as a danger to the Safety Team — "Lead medical removal required: (worker)" — and stays escalated until they are removed from lead exposure.
  • Removal-required, return-eligible, and re-test-due states are all derived from the readings — there is nothing separate to maintain.
  • Export register CSV downloads the surveillance register (api/lead/register.csv).
  • A confirmed-poisoning case opens a 300-log record — see incidents.

Tip: keep draw dates accurate — the removal, return, and re-test-due logic all key off the reading dates.
