Hazardous waste

The Waste module tracks RCRA (40 CFR 262) accumulation containers so nothing sits past its clock. Each container is watched against the generator-category time limit — LQG 90 days (262.17), SQG 180 days (262.16), VSQG no time limit — and the satellite 55-gallon limit under 262.15(a)(1).

Register a container

1. Open Waste and use the Register a container form at the bottom.
2. Enter the site, container ID, waste codes, description, and location.
3. Set Accumulation started to the date waste first entered the container — the RCRA clock starts then, not when you log it.
4. Choose the accumulation type (satellite or central) and generator category, then the capacity and current gallons.
5. Click Register. The container appears in the list with its accumulation due date (central containers only — satellite containers are watched on volume instead).

Watch the limits

• Rows turn red when a container needs attention — past its time limit or over 55 gallons on a satellite container.
• The Status column shows open, over time limit, over 55 gal, or shipped with its manifest number.
• On a flagged container, click CAPA to open a corrective action; the linked CAPA number then shows on the row.

Ship off-site

1. When a container is full or its clock is running out, click Ship….
2. Enter the uniform hazardous waste manifest number — it's required, because the manifest is real compliance data — and click Confirm ship.
3. The container closes, keeps its manifest number on the record, and drops out of the active limits.

What happens automatically

• The daily escalation sweep warns the safety team before a central container's accumulation clock runs out — when it's within 30 days of the 90-day (LQG) or 180-day (SQG) limit — so you can schedule a shipment in time, and again (as overdue) if the limit is actually passed. It also flags a satellite container over 55 gallons, citing 262.15(a)(6): move the excess to central accumulation within 3 days.
• The dashboard counts open containers and containers needing attention.
