Ladders & walking surfaces

This module tracks walking-working surfaces under OSHA Subpart D (1910.22) — ladders, stairways, platforms, and dockboards inspected on a periodic interval. A failed inspection removes the asset from service.

Register access equipment

1. Under Register access equipment, choose the site and enter the asset tag and location.
2. Pick the type (portable step or extension ladder, fixed ladder, stairway, platform, dockboard).
3. Click Register. The asset joins the table with its next inspection due date — portable ladders run a 90-day interval; fixed ladders, stairways, platforms, and dockboards are annual.

Record an inspection

1. Find the asset in the table.
2. Click Inspect ✓ to pass it, or Fail/RFS to remove it from service.
3. A failed asset shows removed with the noted defect. When repaired, click Return to put it back in service.
4. When an asset is scrapped or permanently removed, click Decommission — it drops out of every attention count while its history stays. Decommissioning isn't reversible; use Fail/RFS for a temporary removal.

What happens automatically

• An overdue inspection shows in bold red, and the row turns yellow (needs attention) or red (removed from service).
• An in-service asset whose inspection goes overdue escalates to the safety team by notification. Set who's emailed for that queue under notification routing. Short-cadence equipment checks like these are deliberately kept off the compliance calendar so they don't flood it — the notification sweep covers them instead.
• An asset removed from service now escalates too — "Access equipment removed from service: (asset tag)" — and stays escalated until it is returned to service or decommissioned.
• For an asset needing attention, click CAPA to open a corrective action; the row then links to that CAPA.
• Export register CSV downloads the register with inspection dates and service status (api/access-equipment/register.csv).

Tip: the location field draws from your site's saved areas, so ladders and dockboards stay grouped by where they're actually used.
