Fire extinguishers

This module tracks portable fire extinguishers under OSHA 1910.157 — the monthly visual inspection (e)(2), annual maintenance (e)(3), and the type-based hydrostatic test (f)(2). Units overdue on any check, or out of service, are flagged.

Register an extinguisher

1. Under Register an extinguisher, choose the site and enter the asset tag and location.
2. Pick the extinguisher type — it sets the hydrostatic interval per Table L-1 (5 years for water, CO2, and wet chemical; 12 years for dry chemical and clean agent).
3. Click Register. The unit joins the table with its monthly, annual, and hydro due dates.

Record a check

1. Find the unit in the table.
2. Click Monthly, Annual, or Hydro to log that check — the matching due date rolls forward. Each button only advances its own column, so keep all three current.
3. Use OOS to take a unit out of service and Return to bring it back.

Retire a unit for good

• Decommission marks a unit as scrapped or permanently removed. It leaves every attention count and stops escalating, but its history stays on record.

What happens automatically

• Overdue dates show in bold red; the row turns yellow (needs attention) or red (out of service).
• Escalation: a background sweep notifies the safety team about any in-service unit with an overdue check — worst first per unit (hydro, then annual, then monthly) — so a lapsed test doesn't sit as a silent dashboard number. Out-of-service units aren't escalated; they're already flagged. Set who's emailed for that queue under notification routing.
• The dashboard counts total extinguishers, units needing service, and units out of service.

Follow up and bulk load

• For a unit needing attention, click CAPA to open a corrective action; the row then links to it.
• Bulk-load an existing register via spreadsheet import at /import — the Fire extinguishers target takes SiteId (your site's name works, no codes), AssetTag, Location, ExtinguisherType, and InstalledOn, and the downloadable onboarding workbook includes a worked sheet.
