Industrial hygiene

Exposure sampling records the personal and area samples you collect and compares each to its occupational exposure limit (OEL — OSHA PEL, ACGIH TLV, or NIOSH REL). Results over the limit are flagged as overexposures, samples roll up into AIHA exposure statistics by similar-exposure group, and a medical-surveillance schedule keeps exams from being missed.

Record a sample

1. First make sure the agent has an active OEL (OELs, top right) — you can't sample against nothing.
2. Fill in the Record a sample form: pick the agent/OEL, the sample kind (personal or area), and the measured value.
3. For a non-detect, tick Non-detect and enter the detection limit — the system substitutes ½·LOD as the analytic value.
4. Identify the worker from your roster (or type a name), set the SEG label and date, and save.

Read the results

• Samples over the OEL show an OVEREXPOSURE badge on a red row; everything else reads within OEL.
• On an overexposed sample, click Raise CAPA to drive controls; the row then links to that CAPA.
• Filter by Site and Status to isolate overexposures, or SEGs at/over the action level or judged unacceptable.

Exposure statistics by SEG

When a group has at least three samples, the exposure statistics table fits a lognormal model and reports the geometric mean, GSD, 95th percentile and UTL, then assigns an AIHA band (Cat 3+ is the action level) and a decision. With fewer samples it falls back to the maximum sample. Consistent SEG labels are what make these numbers meaningful — reuse the same group names.

Medical surveillance

1. Open Surveillance and schedule an exam: worker, program (audiometric, respirator, lead, silica, hazardous drug…), frequency, and due date.
2. Click Mark complete when the exam is done.
3. For a recurring frequency, completing an exam automatically schedules the next occurrence that many months out — the ↻ marker shows a follow-up already exists.

What happens automatically

• The escalation sweep notifies the worker when a scheduled surveillance exam is due within 30 days, and again once it's overdue. Delivery preferences live under My work.
• Scheduled surveillance due dates appear on the compliance calendar and its .ics feed.
